Àkọkọ Founder and CEO Waikinya J.S. Clanton, MBA is a political, equity and culture change engineer. With more than a decade of political, and nonprofit leadership and service, Clanton created Akoko admist of the global COVID-19 pandemic. This seasoned executive and skilled chief political and equity advisor, serves as the Senior Advisor to a major political party where she leads and instructs its equity taskforce. She also externally consults on matters with major beauty brands and is a strategic and political advisor on matters of social impact.
Clanton is an innovative thought leader on matters of race, culture, leadership and community, having most recently been tapped to lead the internal and external political responses to civil unrest in the United States and abroad.
Before her stint in national politics, Clanton served as Executive Director for the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women (NOBEL Women), where she proudly reestablished the organization’s training program for African American women interested in political, corporate, and/or nonprofit leadership; worked with its Board of Directors to revise its accounting practices; managed its operating and programmatic budgets while managing its staff and serving as chief spokesperson for the organization.
As Equity Advisor for Sephora, Clanton is a part of a collective of equity leaders who help provide strategic guidance for the company around best practices on matters of diversity and inclusion, helping to direct more than $1 Million in donations to national civic and human rights organizations as well as helping to design its internal racial equity assessment framework.
She is the recipient of a number of national awards and is a member of a number of national and organizational boards and commissions and is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
